Loggerheads and Moel Famau update
Caroline Dawson
The exciting work to modernise facilities at Loggerheads and provide the new one at Bwlch Pan Barras is moving quickly ahead.
The flood alleviation work at Loggerheads is now complete and the Mill buildings have had their new flood stop gates fitted. Work has started on the further modernisation programme, the first step being the refurbishment of the toilet block – temporary replacement facilities have been provided. The work on the meeting room and café will now follow, with the visitor centre open until December, after which it will switch to the Gallery on a temporary basis. Appointed contractors are Park City from St Asaph.
Visitors will have seen that Caffi Florence has closed but an exciting new pop up called the Mill House will be open on site until March 26. Operated by Chilly Cow Ice Cream it will sell fresh tea and coffee, ice cream, cakes and pasties. A stretch marquee has also been erected on the tea garden to provide additional undercover seating.
Moving on to Moel Famau and the pop up facility planned at Bwlch Pen Barras, work on developing detailed plans for phase 1 has begun. This involves connection of utilities – water and electricity – from the bottom to the top car park. Discussions are underway with NRW and legal advisers in relation to necessary easements. The building work will commence when these preliminary stages are complete and the utilities connected. The Project timescale has been extended to March 2027. Paths and trail upgrades will be undertaken throughout the autumn.
