A Precious Gift

June 2025

One of Friends lesser known capacities is the service it can provide to the National Landscape in holding certain funds and resources which the NL, as part of a public body, is unable to accept. A good example is the share capital we hold in the Corwen Hydro Scheme.

A little while ago, a keen supporter of our special landscape wanted to make a contribution to it in memory of his late wife. The NL did not have the ability to accept what was a substantial donation but Friends was able to step in to help. The money was carefully managed in a way that ensured that it was spent entirely in keeping with the wishes of the donor. The result was the installation of three benches at the Bwlch Pen Barras viewpoint and on the way up to Moel Famau plus significant improvement to the natural habitat in the Moel Famau area, with special emphasis on the breeding requirements of the black grouse.

Our donor, a Friends member who wishes to remain quietly in the background, has now been in further discussion with the NL team. Pleased with the positive effect of the original bequest, he has now pledged another significant amount which will again be safeguarded by ourselves. We will, of course, be able to claim Gift Aid too, which will add substantially to the sum available. This will again be directed to important issues in and around the original bequest area between Bwlch Pen Barras and the Moel Famau summit , which has given such pleasure to our donor and his late wife.

A most generous and heartfelt contribution.
