Capture the Clwydian Range & Dee Valley Photo Competition

Celebrating our National Landscape – Landscape & Views

The Friends of the Clwydian Range & Dee Valley invite photographers of all ages and abilities to take part in our 2026 Photo Competition. This is your chance to showcase the scenic beauty of the National Landscape and help us build a lasting visual record of the area we all love.

Competition Category

There is one category:

Landscape & Views – scenic photographs showcasing the beauty of the Clwydian Range & Dee Valley National Landscape.

Maximum of two submissions per person.

Entries will be judged in two age groups:

  • Under 16s
  • Adults

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded in each age group:

  • 1st Place – £100 Life Time Friends membership, certificate, feature on the Friends website and social media, and images showcased on the National Landscape website and social media
  • 2nd Place – £50, certificate, and feature on the Friends website and social media
  • 3rd Place – £25, certificate, and feature on the Friends website and social media

Entry Requirements

  • Photos must be taken within the Clwydian Range & Dee Valley National Landscape boundary.
  • Images must be suitable for print display and exhibition.
  • Digital entries only.
  • Only original photographs may be submitted – AI-generated images are not permitted.
  • Photographers under 16 must have parental consent.
  • Entrants do not have to be Friends members.
  • Drone photography is not permitted.
  • No photos of people – landscape photographs only.

Technical Specifications

  • Minimum 300 dpi resolution.
  • Minimum file size 3–5MB.
  • High-resolution JPEG format preferred.
  • Images should ideally be suitable for A4 printing, in portrait or landscape format.
  • Shortlisted images will be professionally printed and displayed, with a 40–50cm mount size planned.

Judging Process

First-round judging will take place digitally. Approximately 20 shortlisted photographs will then be selected, professionally printed and displayed at the public showcase event. Final judging and/or public voting may take place during the exhibition. Judging will be fair and anonymous wherever possible.

Exhibition & Winners

Shortlisted photographs will be displayed at Loggerheads Meeting Room as part of a public showcase and member engagement event. The display is expected to take place in mid-July or August, with winners announced on Saturday 15 August at Loggerheads at 2pm.

The event may include refreshments, an opportunity for public voting, membership information and a chance for existing Friends members to bring guests and welcome new supporters.

Terms & Conditions

  • Photographers retain copyright but grant Friends of the Clwydian Range & Dee Valley and the National Landscape Team a non-exclusive licence to use images for promotional materials, calendars, exhibitions and social media, with full credit given.
  • Only original photographs may be submitted. AI-generated images are not permitted.
  • Photographers under 16 must have parental consent.
  • Entrants do not have to be Friends members.
  • Drone photography is not permitted.
  • No photos of people. Landscape only.
